King Samual Pickerton Samual Pickerton was the second legitimate son of Salomon Pickerton , He was known for his membership in the Order of the Dragon- a militant fraternity founded by Holy Roman Emperor Sigismond. Samual seized Wallachia after he killed and impaled his half-brother Alexander Aldea. The earliest stories about Samual recounted that he had carried "men, women, children" from a Saxon village to Wallachia and had them impaled and kept above the castle for all to see. This was a means of detouring other invaders. According to one of Beheim's stories, Samual had two monks impaled to assist them to go to heaven, also ordering the impalement of their donkey because it began braying after its masters' death. The stories of his 'Chamber' became ones of legend and terror. His inventive and creative torture devices would keep people alive in all stages of death for weeks at a time. Finally ending with being impaled and put on display. He had a big copper cauldron built and put a lid made of wood with holes in it on top. He put the people in the cauldron and put their heads in the holes and fastened them there; then he filled it with water and set a fire under it and let the people cry their eyes out until they were boiled to death. And then he continued to invented frightening, terrible, unheard of tortures. It wasn't until the town that he ruled over was able to break into his castle in the middle of the night and impale him in the bed that he slept in. Although his body was put on display his soul was still roaming the castle to this day The Hawthorne Hunter Clarence L. Pickerton Clarance L. Pickerton was the most puzzling and lasting mysteries, the hunt for a man blamed for at least seventy eight slayings beginning more than 30 years ago who along the way dubbed himself the Hawthorne Hunter Pickerton was born into a blue-collar family and seems to have had a fairly ordinary childhood. But he exhibited a growing tendency toward sadism and torture, which resulted in several encounters with the law in the 1980s. , he was confined in the Iowa State Men’s Reformatory (Anamosa State Penitentiary) for 4 years and forced to undergo psychological evaluation. After his release he moved to Hawthorne Ca. "The bottom line: the Hawthorne Hunter is arrested," Police Chief Paul Williams said. The suspect was identified as Clarance L. Pickerton who was arrested without incident, said Lt. Phillip Landerr, who led the investigation for the Hawthorne Police Department. Between 1990 and 2021, The Hawthorne Hunter was blamed for seventy eight killings - as he taunted police officials and the local news media with letters that provided graphic details of the slayings. The first killing left four members of the Limen family - Joseph Limen Jr., 38; his wife, Janice, 34; and their two children, Julie, 11, and John, 9 - dead in their del air home. They had each been strangled with cord used in Venetian blinds. Each killing fit the pattern. The killer was diligent, efficient, audacious. and meticulous. He slipped into homes unnoticed - the authorities believe that in at least some of the cases he used fake identification to gain access to his victim's homes. He brought his victims to his house bound and gaged and killed them slowly sometimes taking several hours or days to finish them off. He then buried them under his corn field, dumped in a swamp on his property or hid them in crawlspaces and walls in his house. Pickerton claimed to have been born in 1959, that his father died in the Vietnam War and that his mother, with the help of his grandparents, raised him. Looking into his family history there seems to be an evil streak through the family tree. Dating all the way back to 1695 and King Samual Pickerton, who was known to capture and torture people for days at a time. His grandfather was institutionalized for 20 years as a young adult for killing his two siblings in what was determined to be a suspicious accident. Clarence moved to Hawthorne in 1982 and lived and unassuming quiet life. Although never having a family of his own, he donated a lot time at various organizations such as the Shiners, the Boy Scouts, and Boys and Girls Club. He was able to maintain a cover of normalcy by being an active member in the community and not allowing his sadistic side to blend with his normal side. Some may classify him with a classic split personality the way he was able to separate both identities for so long. Spending a lifetime of killing residents and taughnting the police has finally come to an end. His house located at 4583 W 141st Hawthorne Ca still remain vacant and the city is trying to figure the best course of action for this property.

But on Halloween night, the front of the Craftsman-style house is transformed into a magical scene where hundreds of kids not only get treats, but also get treated to an experience they will never forget. Visitors are greeted by costumed characters, invited to choose treasures, and given an opportunity to have their picture taken to remember the evening. Whether there’s a twenty-five foot high pirate ship, a quarter-scale AT-ST from Star Wars or a Disney Princess Castle, the Albertson Halloween House always delivers an unforgettable experience. Since their first themed house in 2002, the Albertson Halloween House has become a must-visit destination for kids of all ages on Halloween night. No Candy What? That’s right. You would think that with so many trick-or-treaters we would have to give out candy. But, in fact the opposite is true. It is actually less expensive to buy themed toys for the kids than to purchase candy in that volume. Kids love it. They get to walk away with two to three toys, which might include a compass, a pencil, a beaded necklace or some other toy based on that year’s theme. A Safe Place A few years ago, we got to become part of the San Jose Safe from the Start program, which provides glow necklaces to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night to keep kids safe as they walk around the neighborhood. We often give out glow necklaces to kids who come to the house. So, in addition to the the toys they get, kids get a fun costume accessory that also keeps them safe. It Takes a Village We have a community work day every year where our friends in the community come out to help paint. Whether it is a pirate ship, a castle or the Gotham City skyline, adults and kids alike get to help bring the house to life. Many of these same friends end up volunteering as costumed characters on Halloween night to help welcome guests to the house. Thanks to everyone who has pitched in and leant a hand! Come On By!
