Auf einer außerordentlichen Generalversammlung am 27. Juli 1889 wurde die Genehmigung zum Kauf der Zeche Piesberg erteilt. Mit dem Abschluß des Kaufvertrages am 22. August 1889 ging das Bergwerk mitsamt allen Rechten und Pflichten in den Besitz des Georgs-Marien-Bergwerks- und Hüttenvereins über. Unter dem Generaldirektor August Haarmann machen sich im September 1893 junge Bergleute auf den Weg um bei einem Aufhauen neue Anthrazitkohle zu finden und das schwarze Gold an das Tageslicht zu bringen.
